GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) certification is one of the trust badges you see on supplement websites. Gelagen displays it because our facility meets these standards. But what does it actually mean, and how can you verify it?
Under 21 CFR Part 111, the FDA requires all dietary supplement manufacturers to follow GMP regulations. This includes identity testing of ingredients, contamination controls, accurate labeling, proper storage and documented quality procedures.
The FDA conducts periodic inspections of supplement manufacturing facilities. Third-party organizations (NSF International, USP, UL) also offer voluntary GMP certification audits that go beyond FDA minimum requirements.
FDA facility registration is searchable through the FDA's public database. Third-party certifications can be verified through the certifying organization's website. If a brand claims GMP certification, ask which body certified them.
GMP certification means the facility follows proper manufacturing procedures. It does not mean the FDA has approved or endorsed the specific product. No dietary supplement is “FDA approved” — that term applies only to drugs. Our badge says FDA-registered facility, not FDA-approved product.
